Serie A - Mexes confirms Milan move
Roma defender Philippe Mexes has confirmed his widely-expected move to Milan on a free transfer.
The France centre-back, 29, has spent seven years at the capital club but will complete his Bosman deal to the Serie A champions at the end of the season, in time for the start of July 12 pre-season training.
"I can make it official," Mexes told France Football. "I will be a Milan player for the next four seasons. I am happy to arrive at Milan, one of the best clubs in Italy and the world.
"I am proud to join the champions, who are a reference point for everyone. They are a team on the superior level of Manchester United, Barcelona and Real Madrid, who cultivate a winning mentality.
"They share my ambitions - I want to win the Champions League."
The Rossoneri had targeted the former Auxerre player for several seasons but Roma’s refusal to sell forced them to wait until his contract expired.
Mexes confirmed that Roma offered him a new deal, but that his mind was made up midway through the current campaign.
"When Milan offered me this opportunity I did not hesitate," he added.
"I had to options to remain at Roma or to join Milan. Rome has been my second home but I made the decision to leave the club this winter.
"I took all the criteria into consideration. I knew that Milan followed me for the last three years."
