Cope stunned at Brazil Masters
Jamie Cope slumped to a shock defeat to home hope Igor Figueiredo in the first round of the Brazil Masters in Santa Catarina.
World number 17 Cope fell 4-2 in his best-of-seven match with the 33-year-old Brazilian, who is currently ranked 99th in the world.
Figueiredo goes on to meet Graeme Dott, who beat Mark Davis 4-1, in the quarter-finals.
There was almost an early exit for Mark Selby too, as the world number one had to battle back from two frames down to beat Stuart Bingham 4-3 in the tournament opener at the Costão do Santinho resort.
Selby, who has won both the Paul Hunter Classic and the Shanghai Masters in recent weeks, hit a top break of 82 as he won three frames on the bounce to lead 3-2.
Bingham rallied to take the match into a deciding frame, but Selby proved too strong with runs of 31 and 41 to book his place in the next round, where he will meet Peter Ebdon, a comfortable 4-3 winner over Stephen Lee.
