Degenkolb pips Farrar to stage win
HTC Highroad rider John Degenkolb pipped Tyler Farrar to victory in the second stage of the Tour of Algarve in Portugal.
Race officials were forced to review a photo finish before judging that Degenkolb had taken the line at the end of the 186.5km stage from Lagao to Lagos.
Michael Matthews finished third while Philippe Gilbert crossed sixth to retain the lead in the general classification.
Four riders made an early breakaway from the peloton before Caja Rural rider Oleg Chuzdha reeled them in in the closing kilometres in what was a relatively straight-forward stage.
Alberto Contador, who only returned to competition on Wednesday's first stage after his doping ban was overturned, finished 13th, one second off the pace.
