Gesink needs surgery after training crash
Dutchman Robert Gesink could miss the rest of the season after fracturing his right leg in a training crash on Sunday, his Rabobank team said.
A team spokesman said Gesink had been taken to hospital in Doetinchem and will undergo surgery on Monday after suffering a "fracture to his upper right leg."
The injury will be a huge blow for the Dutchman as he was one of the favourites for next month's Giro di Lombardia.
The 25-year-old, who was sixth overall in the 2010 Tour de France and also won last year's inaugural Grand Prix de Montreal, will now definitely miss this week's world championships in Copenhagen.
