Gold for Maltais, Vaultier
Canada's Dominique Maltais and Frenchman Pierre Vaultier claimed victories in the third World Cup snowboard cross of the 2011 season in Colorado.
Maltais continued her perfect start to the season with a third straight victory from three events, crossing the line almost a second clear of Bulgaria's Alexandra Jekova in second place, and fellow Canadian Maelle Ricker in third.
"This is fantastic, just incredible," 30-year-old Maltais said.
"I didn't think that three wins in three starts could be possible. I won each race by a large margin. I was really fast on the course, and really happy that everything went well."
In the mens, meanwhile, Pierre Vaultier claimed gold by a far narrower margin - crossing the line a nose ahead of the USA's Seth Wescott in a photo-finish.
Double Olympic gold-medallist Wescott led from the first turn, repeatedly resisting Vaultier's attacks until the final few feet when the 23-year-old Frenchman finally hauled in his man at the last possible moment.
“That was amazing,” a jubilant Vaultier said. “I guess that was the greatest finish I ever had. We went down just side by side. In the end, I pushed my front foot further and won.”
