Danny Cipriani admits a desire to escape the media maelstrom partly explains his decision to join Melbourne Rebels.

Cipriani has agreed to join the newly-created Super 15 franchise in a two-year contract, rejecting a lucrative offer from Stade Francais in the process.

The 22-year-old hints he has grown weary of his public profile, which has guaranteed his presence in the gossip pages alongside model girlfriend Kelly Brook. "For me to have a change and to have a new outlook on life and rugby, I had to change the environment," he said.

"I don't think there will be so much paparazzi out there. That's not the reason for me going, but the whole media side does come into it slightly.

"It's stuff that I've learnt to deal with over time and you'd like to say it gets easier."

While Cipriani may have grown tired of the attention on his presence off the pitch, he insists the key reason for his move Down Under is to revive his England career.

The 22-year-old has slipped to sixth in the fly-half pecking order and believes a change in scenery will help him achieve his ultimate goal of reclaiming his England place.

"Obviously I need to see what is the best way for me to prolong my England career," he said.

"England have always been my ambition and hopefully this move will prolong my international career in the long run.

"If I go to Australia and do well against guys like Dan Carter and Matt Giteau, I'll still be putting my hand up for the shirt. This change is about me becoming a better rugby player, for me to develop as best I can."
