Dobrynska challenges Ennis

Olympic heptathlon gold medallist Nataliya Dobrynska has thrown down the gauntlet to world champion Jessica Ennis, insisting the world record is within her sights this season.

Dobrynska - 0

Ukraine's Dobrynska was forced to settle for silver at the World Indoor Championships in Doha as Ennis romped to gold, setting a new British record with 4937 points.

In Berlin last summer, Dobrynska could only manage fourth as Ennis banished her Olympic demons with world gold and has since showed no signs of slowing down.

Ennis will therefore head to the European Championships in Barcelona this July red-hot favourite but Dobrynska believes Jackie Joyner-Kersee's 22-year-old world record of 7291 points is within reach.

"After three weeks off, I have already started my preparation for the outdoor season," she said.

"I am going to open my season in the end of May in Gotzis.

"Apart from Gotzis, I am going to compete in Talence, and may be in Kladno, and also do some separate events on the circuit.

"But this is not certain and will depend on my shape. Of course the main start of the season is the European Championships in Barcelona.

"I really hope to be in good shape in Barcelona and the world record? Why not, I think there are two - three athletes in the world, including myself, who seriously have it in mind.

"I would not completely rule out the possibility that someone can break the record in the coming season."
