Europa League - Man City v Porto: Head to head
Wed, 22 Feb 10:00:00 2012
Manchester City lead Porto 2-1 from the first leg of their Europa League last-32 tie and are expected to see the job through at Etihad Stadium tonight.
However, is the fixture as much of a foregone conclusion as some have claimed?
Porto are the reigning champions in the competition having triumphed in Dublin under Andre Villas-Boas last year and, as our infographic suggests, have a far superior record in terms of trophies won throughout their history.
In a less competitive Portuguese league, they have accumulated a trophy collection that City could only dream of, yet their record in Europe is also highly enviable.
They have won the European Cup twice, the second time under Jose Mourinho in 2004, and Europe's secondary cup competition twice as well.
City, though, boast far greater financial resources thanks to the club's transformation under Sheikh Mansour and that may well tell on the pitch.
Both sides boast high-profile forwards who have taken on larger-than-life personas.
Mario Balotelli has become a cult figure in England due to his habit of attracting bizarre headlines, while the nickname of Hulk ensures the Porto star is always the focus of attention.
But which player is the bigger threat? Our infographic suggests that Hulk, four years older than his opponent, is the more rounded player at present, though Balotelli's pace and technique mean he is rather more unpredictable.
Have your say now in the comments section. Let us know whether you think Balotelli or Hulk is the better player, and which side will emerge triumphant tonight.
