Rigoberto Uran of Team Sky won stage four of the Volta a Catalunya.
The Colombian edged out Denis Menchov (Katusha) and Sylwester Szmyd (Liquigas) in a sprint at the end of the 199km stage from Tremp to Asco La vostra energia.
The stage featured three category two climbs and Uran was part of a six-man group that formed on the descent of the Coll de Paumeres with 20km to go.
That group swelled to over 20 riders near the finish but Uran had enough reserves to edge out former Giro winner Menchov and Poland's Szmyd in the gallop to the line.
Uran said: “I’ve been feeling really good this week and a few days ago Brad [Wiggins] worked amazingly for me when I got third on stage two but didn’t quite have it at the end so I really wanted to win this one to repay some of that work and show that I could finish it off.
“I had hoped we’d take more time but the chase group brought it back towards the end. I’m ecstatic, I’ve been close to a win for Team Sky before and it’s nice to finally get this victory.”
Michael Albasini of GreenEdge retained his 92 second lead on GC as one of the riders who caught up with the first three finishers plus Samuel Sánchez, Levi Leipheimer and David Moncoutie near the finish.
After snow, wind and rain cut short the third stage, a host of riders including Bradley Wiggins did not start the fourth stage, despite the bright sunshine, which saw Romain Zingle (Cofidis), Jesus Rosendo (Andalucía) and Julian Sanchez (Caja Rural) form an early attack.
Their move was shortlived and Szmyd attacked on the final climb with American Leipheimer sticking to his wheel but despite the six-man group working well together on the downhill stretch to the finish, a host of riders were together at the finish with Albasini keeping the overall lead with three stages of the World Tour race remaining.
