European Challenge Cup - Round-up: Win not enough for Gloucester
Gloucester thumped Agen 60-7 and La Rochelle crushed Rugby Rovigo 71-17 in the final round of European Challenge Cup group games.
GLOUCESTER 60-7 AGEN
Gloucester did their best to qualify for the last eight of the Challenge Cup, but despite their 60-7 victory over Agen at Kingsholm they will not advance.
Their hopes rested on unfancied and winless Rovigo upsetting group-topping La Rochelle, but the French side won emphatically to qualify at Gloucester's expense.
James Simpson-Daniel and Henry Trinder both scored braces as Gloucester ran in eight tries in all, surging to a 41-0 lead at the interval.
Agen did get on the scoresheet through Jean Monribot's converted try, but Gloucester finished with a flourish courtesy of tries from Olly Morgan and Luke Narraway.
LA ROCHELLE 71-17 ROVIGO RUGBY
La Rochelle continued their excellent season with a 71-17 win against Rovigo at Stade Marcel Deflandre.
The hosts scored 11 tries in all, while Greg Goosen, who scored a try, assumed the kicking duties and converted eight of the scores, ended the game with 21 points.
By picking up the bonus point for the win La Rochelle have also ensured home advantage for the quarter-finals.
