Brown looking to make instant impact

Uncapped Edinburgh full-back Tom Brown aims to "spark a bit of fire" into the Scotland set-up during the tour of Australia and the Pacific Islands.

Brown trained with his international team-mates for the first time on Thursday, but the 22-year-old is not content just to ease himself into the Scotland set-up. The back is looking to bring his energetic running to the international scene during Scotland's three-match tour, where they will face Australia, Fiji and Samoa.

Brown, speaking after a training session next to Murrayfield, told Press Association Sport: "Hopefully I will find a bit of space over there and spark a bit of fire in the Scotland team and hopefully score some tries."

Brown is relishing the prospect of making his debut against Australia in Newcastle, New South Wales, on June 5, where Scotland will be looking to avoid an eighth consecutive defeat.

"I have watched Australia my whole life and enjoyed watching the running game that they play," he said. "Hopefully gaps will open up and we'll be able to exploit those gaps and make line breaks and score tries.

"Obviously I'm still learning, this was my first training session. I'll be learning the way Scotland play and the roles I have to fulfil but looking at my game, and looking at my strengths, I want to be running with the ball and being an exciting player and being a threat on the field.

"That's looking at it from an individual point of view but I'll learn as the tour goes on and the meetings increase and I get a bit of feedback from the coaches."

Despite his confidence, Brown admitted to some nerves before his first session with Andy Robinson's squad, although he soon settled in.

He said: "There were a wee bit of nerves coming in but when you step on the rugby pitch and do what you do every day with your club it starts to come naturally.

"I really enjoyed it, it's good to have a wee bit of pressure on the field."
