Boxer Ricky Hatton has not renewed his private box at Manchester City after prices rocketed to nearly £40, 000 per season.
The Mancunian and his friends have enjoyed a City box for 10 years but decided to get rid of it when prices jumped from £28,000 to £39,000 for next season.
"When the price went up, all the lads said 'We can't pay that'," the 31-year-old said.
Hatton and his fiancee Jennifer Dooley are reported to have recently bought a house in Gee Cross, Greater Manchester for £3 million.
"Ricky has a circle of mates he's known for years," a source told The Sun newspaper.
"But they're not millionaires and these new prices were too extravagant for Ricky and the lads. Times are tough."
