Bundesliga - Ribery in Bayern injury scare
Sun, 24 Jul 14:39:00 2011
Bayern Munich winger Franck Ribery suffered an ankle injury during a pre-season training session on Sunday.
The 28-year old, who joined Bayern in 2007, had to be carried from the training ground by members of the club's medical team after receiving treatment where he lay for several minutes.
Fortunately for all involved at the German club, officials said that his injury wasn't as serious as first though and should only be out for a week.
Ribery himself said that he was "very afraid" at first and feared that he may have torn ligaments in his ankle. But an examination by club doctor Hans-Wilhelm Mueller-Wohlfahrt found that the injury was less serious than initially feared.
The French winger will miss the rest of Bayern's pre-season matches but may be fit in time to face second division club Eintracht Braunschweig on August 1st in the team's first-round German Cup match.
