Fernando Gago hopes to leave Real Madrid in the near future and sees former club Boca Juniors as the ideal destination.

La Liga - Gago seeks Boca return

The Argentinian moved from Boca to Real for €20 million (£17.6m) in 2006 but has failed to regularly hold down a first team place ever since.

Competition for places in Los Merengues' midfield is fierce and the arrival of Hamit Altintop and Nuri Sahin this summer could see Gago's chances limited even further. He is now looking for a change of scenery in order to increase his game time.

A move to Liverpool had been suggested but it is a return to his native Argentina and former club Boca that Gago most desires, and his agent Marcelo Lombilla suggests he is more than willing to take a pay cut in order to do so.

Lombilla told Ole: "Fernando's wish is to return to Boca and that is what we are going to try and get.

"You can see how much desire he has to go back. It is such that I still can't believe he would give up so much money."
