La Liga - Marcelo gets Spanish nationality
Real Madrid have announced that left-back Marcelo has obtained Spanish nationality.
The news means that the Brazil international no longer occupies a place in the squad as one of three non-EU players.
Marcelo joined Real Madrid from Fluminense in January 2007 and has obtained dual nationality after spending four-and-a-half years in Spain.
The defender swore allegiance to the Spanish constitution at a court house in Alcobendas.
"This day is very special to me," Marcelo told the club's official website. "I've always wanted to be here."
Marcelo enjoyed an impressive 2010-11 season but has seen the club recruit rival full-back Fabio Coentrao this summer from Benfica.
