Multiple fractures for Scheiber
Austrian speed specialist Mario Scheiber suffered multiple fractures when he crashed in first training for Saturday's downhill, organisers said.
The 27-year-old lost balance on a jump on the Kandahar piste and ended up in the safety nets, race organisers saying Scheiber briefly lost consciousness before being flown to a nearby hospital in Sallanches.
"Doctors reported fractures to the collarbone, nose and cheekbone but neither head, back or legs were affected," the Austrian team said in a statement.
Scheiber's team mate and compatriot Hans Grugger crashed in downhill training last week in Kitzbuehel and was placed in an induced coma.
Scheiber has had several podium placings in his career, finishing second in the Lake Louise downhill in Canada this season.
