A calf injury to Alan Hutton means 23-year-old American Lichaj is likely to be competing with Chris Herd for the right-back spot while, with Charles N'Zogbia out and Stiliyan Petrov struggling, McLeish may rejig his formation to accommodate striker Weimann, 20.
The Villa boss told www.avfc.co.uk: "Eric is proving to be a little bit of a warrior. There is nothing wrong with being hungry and eager... because without the desire and hunger it is difficult to make the grade at this level.
"We have been impressed with his application in training and in some of the reserve games recently he has been outstanding. So there are no problems if we felt we had to play Eric.
"Andi Weimann is champing at the door too so there will be a lot of food for thought in terms of selection and what formation we go for at the weekend."
Meanwhile, Villa have confirmed they will face Burton Albion in a pre-season friendly at the Pirelli Stadium on July 14, four days before the first match of their US tour.
