The Elite Men’s Road Race will be the main highlight of the weekend, with current world champion Cadel Evans (pictured) hoping to defend his title on home soil.

Mark Cavendish will be the main British attraction, following his five stage victories in the Tour de France. The Manx missile will be aiming to be the first British rider to take gold since Tom Simpson back in 1965. Joining Cavendish in the men’s road race will be David Millar and Jeremy Hunt.

Team GB’s women’s team will be among the medal contenders with a strong line-up which includes Olympic champion and 2008 winner Nicole Cooke, British champion Emma Pooley and U23 British champion Lizzie Armitstead.
