Fowler, taken with the 12th overall pick in the National Hockey League Entry Draft last month, is expected to be given a chance to make the team this season.

Financial terms of the 18-year-old defenseman's contract were not included in a report on the team's website.

Fowler had eight goals and 47 assists in 55 games for the Windsor Spitfires last season before going on to help the team win their second straight Memorial Cup as junior ice hockey champions.
