Southampton manager Nigel Adkins hailed his side's team spirit after they came from behind to beat Hull 2-1 and extend their winning home run in the league to 19 matches.
Hull midfielder Robert Koren had put the visitors ahead but goals from Guly Do Prado and Adam Lallana ensured Saints bounced back from Saturday's surprise defeat by Bristol City and kept them two points clear of second-placed West Ham.
Adkins said: "We have a great team spirit. We created a lot of chances in the first half, but just could not score.
"It's a great win for us. It was a tough game, but I'm pleased to come back with a win after the loss at the weekend.
"We knew it was going to be a big challenge for us because Hull are a good side. I'm taking the positives out of the game which was the win.
"We came out in the second half and scored two good goals. It's a great three points and we have a lot of momentum at home."
