Five-star Tilley completes perfect week
Alexandra Tilley completed a clean sweep of all five titles at the British Ski Championships in Meribel with victory in the giant slalom.
The 18-year-old from Aberdeen held off her friend and rival Charlie Guest and emulate a feat last achieved by Chemmy Alcott, Britain’s leading World Cup racer who is currently recovering from injury.
"It is a real thrill to get my name on this trophy. I stood on this podium for the first time with Chemmy winning a couple of years ago and I knew I wanted to win it sometime soon. Of course it’s a shame she is not here because I would like to have raced against her, but I’ll take it and I am so pleased." said Tilley.
The men's slalom was won by Blackpool's Rob Bullen who was half a second adrift of the lead after a demanding first run.
The firm conditions accounted for 42 of the 83 starters including favourite Dave Ryding who skied out when it looked certain that he would set the fastest time.
