Paolo Di Canio has targeted seven or eight new signings this summer as he looks to guide Swindon to back-to-back promotions.
Di Canio was speaking after penning a contract extension to keep him at the County Ground until 2015, coming on the back of a dream first season in management in which he claimed the League Two title.
He and Town share the same goal of reaching the Championship within three years but that will not stop the Italian from trying to do it quicker, although he realises League One will prove a tougher ask.
"The ambition is to try and go up and stay close to the top teams and see if we can build on the belief we already have," Di Canio told the club's official website. "I think positive and we should all think positive, but we have to remain honest with ourselves.
"We won the league well last season but we have to start behind when you look at teams such as Sheffield United, which is only natural, but we will work hard.
"I have told the chairman there are a few players I would like. In England there are many good players. I think I would approximately like seven or eight players, as this would guarantee to me we start well and see where we are in December."
