Browne retains Senior lead
Olin Browne broke a three-round US Senior Open record in taking a two-shot lead into the final round in Toledo, Ohio.
Browne shot a third round of 65, six-under par, to move two shots ahead of nearest rival Mark O'Meara, who was only one stroke back at the halfway stage.
The 54-hole total of 15-under par beats South African Simon Hobday’s score at Pinehurst in 1994 by one shot.
O’Meara is four strokes clear of third-placed golfers Mark Calcavecchia (69), Peter Senior (68), Joey Sindelar (69) and Jeff Sluman (65).
Browne is yet to win a tournament on the senior tour, never mind a Major.
“It would be great [to win], obviously,” he said. “Any time you can put that kind of a championship on your resume it’s a tremendous accomplishment.
"I haven’t gotten one. I would love to have one.”
There were four days of rain at Inverness prior to the tournament, which has allowed players to record very low scores.
