14:55 England 7-0 (1.4 overs) IT'S ALL OVER!!!! The umpires have abandoned play for the day as a result of what they deem to be a 'DANGEROUS OUTFIELD'. Has there ever, in the history of all cricket ever played on this or any other planet in the universe, been a more ridiculous, nauseating, pathetic, farcical turn of events in a Test match? SURELY THEY KNEW ABOUT THE OUTFIELD BEFORE THE MATCH STARTED!!! SURELY!!! What makes it worse is that ENGLAND WERE ALL OVER THE WEST INDIES!!!
14:45 England 7-0 (1.4 overs) FARCE! Play has resumed, but just
two balls are bowled before the everything comes to a rather
anticlimatic halt. Both the bowlers, Taylor and Fidel Edwards, are
struggling to maintain their footing on the sandy turf and the umpires
have clearly decided something needs to be done. Quite what can be done
is unclear...the surface will surely only get worse as play goes on.
14:20 England 6-0 (1.2 overs) - SNOW! Don't be ridiculous. Play
is scheduled to restart in around 10 minutes. Until then England are
WITHOUT LOSS in their first innings. They also have a clear FIRST
INNINGS LEAD in this second Test. To borrow lyrics from the 90s
megastar and former Eastenders siren Michelle Gayle, 'Things are
14:10 England 6-0 (1.2 overs) - RAIN! A light shower begins to
fall and the umpires waste no time in calling play. What a shame,
England were absolutely flying, probably their best start in Test match
history, Strauss and Cook both looked liked knocking over double-tons,
maybe triples. This could ruin everything.
14:00 England 5-0 (1 over) - Jerome Taylor slides one
legside with his opening delivery and captain Strauss flicks away a
gentle two to get England on the board. Another two follow for Strauss,
as Taylor looks to be struggling with his run-up on this sandy turf.
The fifth ball of the over sees the bowler go round the wicket...he
bowls a full delivery and Strauss leans forward to push a single. Cook
survives his first ball and England the opening over. As ever YOUR
COMMENTS ARE WELCOME!
13:50 - The pitch is a little bit sticky, but should soon dry
off with a brisk, warm wind coming in. There is a big strip of sand a
couple of yards behind the stumps at one end where it has been dug up
to put cables in. That could play havoc with the bowlers' run-ups.
13:40 - West Indies skipper Chris Gayle has won the toss and
chosen to bowl first. England captain Andrew Strauss says he would have
batted anyway. There have been concerns over the state of the field -
it looks very crumbly out there.
13:30 - Team news: England make two changes, dropping Ian Bell and Steve Harmison. Owais Shah and Jimmy Anderson come in. Perhaps surprisingly, Monty Panesar keeps his place ahead of Graeme Swann. West Indies bring in Ryan Hinds to replace Xavier Marshall.
13:15 - Welcome to LIVE coverage of the second Test between
West Indies and England from
Antigua. You may remember our boys getting
skittled for 51 and slumping to a humiliating defeat last weekend - can they
restore some pride or will the Barmy Army be watching through the cracks between their fingers at
Richards Stadium? Play gets under way at 2pm UK time.
