James Rodriguez takes world by storm thanks to baby daughter

Early Doors

James Rodriguez was the undisputed break-out star of the World Cup. Despite the fact that he'd been bought for the best part of £50 million in the summer of 2013, his mesmerising brilliance - and six goals - for Colombia in Brazil saw him hailed across the world as an overnight sensation.

His charms were many. A penchant for producing outrageous goals was at the heart of it; the dance celebrations enjoyed by Rodriguez and his team-mates helped; and the fact that nobody could agree on how to pronounce his name ensure that people were still yabbering on about him at the watercooler even on days when he hadn't done anything brilliant.

He even managed to dominate the headlines for a couple of weeks after the tournament had finished by signing for Real Madrid, and in the process becoming the fourth-most-expensive player ever.

And now, just as you feel the limelight must surely yearn to shine on someone else, he's claimed headlines once more by boogieing with his adorable 14-month-old daughter, Salome, with the Instagram post you can see at the top of the page - a post which has already persuaded nearly half a million people to waste 2.6 seconds of their lives by clicking the little "heart" icon.

Early Doors also has a 14-month-old baby running around at home right now, as it happens. And while little Salome is jumping around as if she's auditioning for a part on Glee, baby ED's speciality is grunting like an enraged orangutan and throwing toy cars at his older sister's head.

And in that snippet we encapsulate the futures of these two infants: one the future sports star who will dance effortlessly through a joyous life; the other, quite clearly and very disturbingly, set for the inarticulate spouting and casual violence of life as a football hooligan.

Ho hum.
