However, while revelling in his feat, Pellegrini also suffered an unfortunate slip of the tongue.
As you can see in the video below (at 1m 20s), Pellegrini accidentally told the BBC how much he loved managing Manchester UNITED.
"I love pressure," he said. "To manage a big team as Manchester United and to have [lots of] competitions is very good."
It is not the first time a prominent City individual has made the mistake: much maligned former chief executive Garry Cook once said at a club event that “I’d like to welcome Uwe Rosler into the Manchester United Hall of Fame.”
Cook was subsequently booed by supporters. However, City fans are likely to be more forgiving of Pellegrini, who has assembled a fantastically entertaining team which could yet secure an unprecedented quadruple.
Still, he might be wise to practice saying 'Manchester CITY' out loud a few times...
Pellegrini almost did same thing in his press conference. There was a bit where he definitely said: "Manchester U- City..." — Tom Williams (@tomwfootball) March 2, 2014
