Japanese star adds strike to strike with ten pin celebration

Early Doors

Early Doors will be the first to put its hand up and admit that Estonian top flight football doesn't get much coverage on these pages. For that, we can only apologise - and hope that the following video and 245 words helps make up for it to some degree.

That's because a goal celebration in the Baltic state's top flight has earned 15 minutes of global fame for Nomme Kalju (that's a team, incidentally) and their Japanese star Hidetoshi Wakui.

The 31-year-old - who helped Nomme to the title in 2012 - orchestrated the fantastic display after scoring the opening goal against table-topping Flora.

No sooner had the ball touched the netting than Wakui ran to retrieve it with a maniacal grin on his face, and barked at his team-mates to line up in a triangle for what he clearly couldn't wait to do next: send the lot of them to the turf with a cracking delivery that would have shamed Bill Murray in Kingpin.

Flora ended up equalising late on in the match to remain top of the table, incidentally.

And now, partly to fill some extra space at the bottom of this page, but mostly to chuck a few bonus laughs into this story, here's some other fantastic celebrations that have made us chuckle in the past few years:

The undisputed kings of the goal celebration are still Iceland's Stjarnan FC, who have come up with all manner of cracking displays. The 'fishing' one is probably our favourite...

...but you can see loads more in this compilation if you've five minutes to spare:

Congo goalkeeper Robert Kidiaba became a web celebrity after his 'bum shuffle' at the 2013 African Cup of Nations:

Moroccan goalkeeper Khalid el Askri put his hand on his heart and thanked his maker after a penalty shoot-out save that he thought put his FAR Rabat team into the cup quarter-finals ... but he was a little premature with it...:

Eric Hassli of the Vancouver Whitecaps celebrates... and earns himself an early bath in the process despite his cunning ruse of having a second, identical shirt beneath the one he lobbed into the crowd. Doh!
