The Special One was trying to claim otherwise, but we all knew what we were seeing as Jose Mourinho rushed down the touchline to celebrate what would prove to be a winning goal by Demba Ba.

Mourinho had complained about Chelsea's strikers in recent weeks, and none had been as forgotten as Senegal international Ba, marginalised even with Fernando Torres struggling to buy a goal.

But, with time running out and Chelsea needing a second goal to draw level with Paris Saint-Germain on aggregate but move ahead on away goals, Mourinho's throw of the dice paid off as Ba expertly finished from close-range after anticipating Cesar Azplicueta's low shot.

And what followed was classic Mourinho:

Of course, Mourinho was breaking the rules - he is not supposed to leave his technical area and he seemed to encroach on the pitch. Sensible refereeing meant he was not punished, but UEFA have a tendency to be sticklers for the rules.

Afterwards, Jose insisted he was merely trying to give tactical instructions to his players; indeed, he could be seen whispering sweet nothings into Andre Schuerrle's ear.

"Three minutes plus extra time playing the way we were playing... it was too risky. I wanted to tell them to play in front of the defenders because I knew Alex was going there for the long balls, to tell Fernando (Torres) to defend Maxwell because he is a full-back who attacks more. I wanted to tell my two fresh players to play differently."

But we all know that Mou loves a touchline run and a group hug - indeed, he etched himself on to the memory of English fans with this little puppy way back when:
