After Liverpool squandered their Premier League title hopes with a 3-3 draw at Crystal Palace from a three-goal lead, Tottenham Hotspur’s official Twitter did something that no club media sources usually do and poked a bit of fun at the Reds.

As you can see from our blog on the night, the club promptly deleted the tweet, apologised and assured everyone that the culprit was not anyone affiliated to the club.

Whatever the truth, you would expect Tottenham's media team to be on their very best behaviour - so we were surprised to see a tweet from @SpursOfficial on Friday night that appeared to poke fun at manager Tim Sherwood.

If you didn't spot anything wrong, take a closer look at the link in Tottenham's tweet - and bear in mind anyone who signs up for link-shortneing website Bit.ly can choose a customised suffix rather than a random jumble of characters. It can help give a catchy and relevant name to a shortened link.

So what about bit.ly/1saqme1? Saqme? Sack me!

We at Early Doors will happily admit we thought the link for a story about under-fire boss Tim Sherwood – who few expect to be in charge of the first team come the new season – was very funny.

But it will certainly see Tottenham come under fresh scrutiny. The club, for their part, have left the tweet alone - perhaps preferring to leave open the possibility of a bizarre coincidence rather than issue their second grovelling apology this week.

Perhaps the @SpursOfficial team should visit bit.ly/BUSTED!
