David Silva

Manchester City have really missed the wizardry of their playmaker David Silva of late, and Roberto Mancini is desperate to have the Spaniard back in his ranks for the trip to Wigan.

Silva has been absent as City have suffered a blip in form, and Mancini will be sweating over the midfielder's ankle problem ahead of the clash with the Latics with Yaya Toure at the African Cup of Nations.

For Chelsea, the news is positive: Daniel Sturridge and John Terry have both been declared fit for the visit of Martin O'Neill's Sunderland.

Branislav Ivanovic and John Obi Mikel have failed to recover, while Michael Essien's return is just a week away and the Ghanaian could face Norwich next weekend.

Manchester United have Rio Ferdinand as a major doubt for their home clash with Bolton with a stomach bug, but Jonny Evans has recovered from a calf problem.

Meanwhile, Tom Cleverley will be given more time to recuperate from his ankle ligament injury to ensure a complete recovery, with Anderson and Paul Scholes returning to bolster the United midfield.

Sylvain Distin is very unlikely to be fit to face Aston Villa this weekend after the veteran defender picked up a hamstring injury in Everton's defeat to Tottenham on Wednesday.

Kenny Dalglish revealed that the injury sustained by midfielder Jay Spearing is not as serious as initially believed after he pulled up with a hamstring strain, 23 minutes into Liverpool's midweek victory over City. Charlie Adam will likely replace the midfielder regardless.
