RvP is Fantasy MVP

As thrilling as it was to sit back and enjoy the final day of the Premier League season, it was an experience tinged with sadness. For Manchester City's players lifting the trophy signalled the end of the campaign, and with it the end of another year of Yahoo! Fantasy Football.

Here are the game's top five players for the season by position, the top 10 overall and, most importantly, we announce the winner of the 2011-12 game.

Many thanks for playing to each and every one of the tens of thousands of you who took part this season. Only three months to go until we can do it all again!

Top five goalkeepers

Fittingly for the side crowned champions, Manchester City's Joe Hart was the top keeper this season. A sterling recovery from a dodgy start led Manchester United's David de Gea into second, but the young Spaniard just couldn't compete with Hart's 17 clean sheets. Tottenham's Brad Friedel was third best in the season that saw his 300th consecutive league appearance, while Dutch duo Michel Vorm and Tim Krul round off the top five.

1. Joe Hart (Manchester City) — 326.00 points

2. David de Gea (Manchester United) — 284.00

3. Brad Friedel (Tottenham Hotspur) — 262.50

4. Michel Vorm (Swansea City) — 258.00

5. Tim Krul (Newcastle United) — 230.00

Top five defenders

Everton left-back Leighton Baines tops the charts among defenders, though it's as much for his set-piece ability and runs down the wing as it is for his defensive efforts. Patrice Evra and John Arne Riise were the joint second best, meaning all of the top three were left-backs. PFA Young Player of the Year Kyle Walker just pips Swansea's Angel Rangel to fourth.

1. Leighton Baines (Everton) — 276.00

=2. Patrice Evra (Manchester United) — 244.50

=2. John Arne Riise (Fulham) — 244.50

4. Kyle Walker (Tottenham Hotspur) — 233.00

5. Angel Rangel (Swansea City) — 230.00

Top five midfielders

Fulham's Clint Dempsey may have enjoyed his best season to date in the Premier League, with 17 goals and six assists to his name, but it still wasn't enough to beat Gareth Bale to the title of midfield MVP. Bale's Tottenham team-mate Rafael van der Vaart also makes the top five, ahead of Manchester City's David Silva and Arsenal's Theo Walcott. Yes, Theo Walcott, who chalked up eight goals and as many assists in his most productive season for the Gunners.

1. Gareth Bale (Tottenham Hotspur) — 425.00

2. Clint Dempsey (Fulham) — 415.50

3. Rafael van der Vaart (Tottenham Hotspur) — 332.00

4. David Silva (Manchester City) — 301.00

5. Theo Walcott (Arsenal) — 288.00

Top five strikers

No prizes for guessing who the highest-scoring striker in fantasy football was this season, and the best player in the game overall. Arsenal's Robin van Persie finished the season more than 100 points ahead of his nearest rival, Manchester United's Wayne Rooney. Manchester City's title-winner Sergio Aguero is third in a top three that mirrors the Premier League's final scoring charts. Fourth-placed Emmanuel Adebayor's 17 goals and 11 assists may well earn him a permanent deal at Tottenham, whilst Liverpool's Luis Suarez completes the top five.

1. Robin van Persie (Arsenal) — 616.00

2. Wayne Rooney (Manchester United) — 493.00

3. Sergio Aguero (Manchester City) — 424.50

4. Emmanuel Adebayor (Tottenham Hotspur) -337.50

5. Luis Suarez (Liverpool) — 332.00
