The Fantasist feels as smug as Cristiano Ronaldo posing for an ill-judged photoshoot after a frankly epic week of recommendations.

After the Shay Given-selection debacle before Christmas, it was about time a few selections came good from the names picked out of the proverbial hat.

Manuel Almunia picked up 18.50 points, while the second shout Paul Robinson, priced at just 3.22, came up just short with a rollicking 18.

It has to be said that Edwin van der Sar confounded the caution paid from these quarters as he displaced Tomasz Kuszczak to turn out a hefty 17.91. The Fantasist felt that the Dutchman's place was not certain but, for those of you who were braver, it was a good selection.

If you heeded the advice to steer well clear of Marton Fulop, then you would have been extremely relieved you did, as Chelsea fired seven goals past the Sunderland goalkeeper.

Gareth Bale racked up 11 points to vindicate the faith placed in his selection, while Thomas Vermaelen was also an inspired choice as he compiled 10.50.

Liverpool's Philipp Degen, despite being well priced at 6.07, was a poor shout as the Reds had another disappointing week against Stoke.

Meanwhile, Leighton Baines did not prove to be over-valued at 13.04 as he mustered 12 points for Everton against Manchester City.

Okay, they were hardly picks from left-field, but Frank Lampard and Cesc Fabregas (pictured) romped away with 23.50 and 25.50 points respectively.

The pair's prices will no doubt rocket up once more and, with Lampard previously at 18.95, he will be unlikely to drop to that level again all season.

The Fantasist has to concede that Rafael Benitez has rendered the recommendation of impotent midfielder Alberto Aquilani entirely useless.

The same can be said for Dirk Kuyt and David Ngog, who represented poor picks as Liverpool flopped at the Britannia.

Wigan's Charles N'Zogbia proved the Fantasist wrong as he turned out a goalscoring display against Wolves as the chants of 'lose 'im' clearly riled the Frenchman.

But to end on a high, the Fantasist had the foresight to recommend that the hideously over-valued Cameron Jerome be cast aside.

Granted, the Portsmouth-Birmingham clash was postponed, but every correct choice has to be milked.
