Djokovic survived a third-set wobble to see off his Estonian friend in the semi-finals of the French Open.
Gulbis did not play quite as well as previously in what has proved to be his breakout tournament; but Djokovic still had to keep focused, especially after losing the third set.
Djokovic was not entirely pleased with his performance in that stanza:
Ultimately the win set up a title tilt with Rafael Nadal, but the Serb will have to play better against the Spaniard in Sunday’s final.
Nadal utterly destroyed Andy Murray in their semi-final, leading Mats to conclude that you have to pretty much play a perfect match to beat him on clay.
Mats points to Rafa’s record, which – over all five-setters on clay – gives opponents just over a 1% chance of beating him. Wow.
