Wrigley Field's 100th birthday cake thrown away uneaten, Cubs disappointed

You know that mammoth cake version of Wrigley Field the Chicago Cubs had made for the stadium's 100th birthday party? Well, it's sitting in the trash somewhere right now and the Cubs aren't happy about it.

A Reddit user named ChewysDingleberrys spied the cake waiting to be disposed of after Wednesday's celebratory events and posted pics online of the battered, uneaten cake, prompting the Cubs to issue a statement of disappointment.

The 400-pound cake — made by celebrity baker Buddy Valastro of "Cake Boss" fame — was on display outside Wrigley Field before the game Wednesday. The plan was to move it to The Field Museum in Chicago, which was hosting the Cubs' $600-per-ticket Bricks and Ivy Ball that evening.

As we're learning now, however, thanks to Redeye, the team decided not to serve the cake because it had been outside most of the day. The Cubs, however, weren't happy about the manner in which the cake was thrown away. Their statement:

"The Chicago Cubs are disappointed in how our Wrigley Field display cake was disposed by the Field Museum following our successful charity event.  The team made a decision not to serve the edible portion after the cake was on display outside Wrigley Field for most of the day.  Though the cake was mostly made up of non-edible material, it certainly does not excuse how a celebratory cake artfully created by Buddy Valastro and Carlo’s Bakery was handled."

Count this as yet another reminder — the Cubs can't have nice things.
