McCorkle, Grant start UFC 119 with wins

INDIANAPOLIS -- Sean McCorkle started off UFC 119 at the Conseco Fieldhouse with a bang, submitting Mark Hunt in an armbar in just 1:03.

Hunt got the first takedown but McCorkle got him in a quick armbar, stretching him out to end the fight. The already raucous crowd stood and cheered for their hometown fighter.

“If I get submission of the night, that would be awesome too," McCorkle said after the fight. "I never fought in front of more than 1,500 people so this was amazing, especially fighting in front of your home crowd.”

Grant wins grappling-filled decision

T.J. Grant won the welterweight bout between him and Julio Paulino with a 30-27 unanimous decision.

Paulino started the fight out with a prolonged single-leg takedown attempt. The crowd in Indianapolis booed the grappling quickly, though the fighters never became inactive. Grant controlled the first round, coming close to an armbar.

Paulino made the same mistake twice to end up getting controlled in a grappling-filled second round. Both times he tried for a front kick, Grant used it for a takedown. He flipped the script in the third, with Paulino using Grant's kick to knock him on his back. Grant caught Paulino's head in his legs, but couldn't hold on for the choke.
