It’s been an interesting year and a half for Max Wittek, but it looks like the former USC quarterback will get another chance to start at the FBS level.

According to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser, Wittek has been named the starter at the University of Hawaii, where he transferred last summer. Wittek took first team reps for the Rainbow Warriors during the spring and was voted co-captain by his teammates.

Wittek announced his decision to leave USC as a graduate transfer in January 2014 and reportedly visited the University of Texas multiple times. However, those plans for immediate eligibility changed due to a delay in his graduation from USC. Later on, Wittek landed at Hawaii and sat out the 2014 season due to the NCAA’s transfer rules.

Now, as a redshirt senior, he’ll take the field for Hawaii in 2015 when it opens its season against Colorado on Sept. 3.

At USC, Wittek entered the 2013 season in a competition to earn the Trojans’ starting role, but was beaten out by Cody Kessler. Overall in 2013, the 6-foot-4, 240-pound Wittek completed 14-of-26 passes for 212 yards.

Wittek previously earned two starts for the Trojans against Notre Dame and Georgia Tech after Matt Barkley was injured in 2012. In all, he appeared in five games in 2012 and threw for 388 yards, three touchdowns and five interceptions.
