Jim McElwain switches jobs with UF President for April Fools Day (Video)

A lot of college football programs like to have fun with their fans on April Fools Day. Florida is taking it to a whole new level on Wednesday by having university president Kent Fuchs and new Gators head coach Jim McElwain switch jobs.

“Being president is nice and all, but frankly it’s a lot more dull than I thought it would be,” Fuchs said to the Alligator, Florida’s student newspaper. “I’ve been in higher education for a long time, plus I’m an engineer. I could use a little excitement in my life.”

McElwain is on board with the switch, too, and is already making changes to the school’s graduation ceremony at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.

“I’m thinking we skip the stage for the graduates to walk across,” he said. “Now picture this: Instead, we have them run out of the tunnel while the band plays the fight song. Of course, they might trip on those gowns they wear — I need to work on that. Maybe we put them all in uniforms. Then, just to make things interesting, we bring in a T-shirt cannon and fire rolled-up diplomas out into the crowd.”

Both Fuchs and McElwain seem to have adapted to the switch rather quickly. Fuchs has already become acclimated with his new players.

It looks like McElwain has made a smooth transition into his new duties as well.

We’ll see if any other teams can top this one.
