Mark Richt says Georgia is recruiting transfer QB Greyson Lambert

Georgia coach Mark Richt confirmed reports that the Bulldogs are interested in former Virginia quarterback Greyson Lambert.

Lambert announced his transfer from Virginia shortly after he was dropped to second string on the depth chart behind Matt Johns. Lambert and Johns split time in 2014, but Johns outperformed Lambert during spring practices. Lambert started nine games last season and threw for 1,972 yards, 10 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.

Lambert graduated from Virginia and is eligible to play immediately.

Georgia currently has three quarterbacks in the mix to replace one-year starter Hutson Mason — Brice Ramsey, Faton Bauta and Jacob Park. Ramsey and Bauta finished spring atop the depth chart, but Richt said the competition was ongoing.

“It’s just like I’ve said all along: First of all, everybody’s gotta compete with whoever’s there,” Richt said. “We recruit every year. It’s an interesting dynamic of the timing. But it’s really not a whole lot different than recruiting anybody. Every year we recruit. Every year we bring in guys. Every year you go compete for your job and win it.”

Lambert is originally from Georgia and was recruited briefly by the Bulldogs. After Lambert committed to Virginia, Georgia turned its focus to Ramsey.

Lambert will have two years to play.
