Berra’s stunning skate save clinches Flames’ comeback, ruins Nystrom’s 4-goal night (Video)
If you're up for some math, Eric Nystrom scored 7-percent of his career goals Friday night. During a career game against the Calgary Flames, the Nashville Predators forward scored four times against his old club to give him 57 career NHL goals.
The only downside to his night? The Predators would waste Nystrom's effort and blow a 4-2 lead, eventually losing 5-4 after a shootout.
For some reason, Predators head coach Barry Trotz didn't want to ride the hot hand, so he kept Nystrom chained to the bench in overtime, not playing him at all. Later, when the game went to a shootout, Nashville sent four shooters, none of whom were Nystrom (zero career shootout attempts).
In the shootout, goals from Jiri Hudler and Sean Monahan gave the Flames a 2-1 edge when Ryan Ellis stepped up with an opportunity to tie things, but was denied by the skate of Reto Berra:
Berra is now 4-0 in shootouts this season.
The loss by the Predators now means that in less than a week, we've seen two NHL players score four goals in a game where their teams would eventually blow 4-2 leads.
Tough break for Nystrom and Marty St. Louis.
