Getting checked through bench door is never fun (Video)

Oh, KHL bench door guy. We saw that stick fly by your head – scary! But you stood in there, doing your sacred duty of opening the bench door for a line change.

Maybe you thought Tim Stapleton, former Toronto Maple Leafs forward now playing for Metallurg, would clear out of the way and allow the CSKA players to change. Maybe you didn’t see Igor Makarov skating in like a bullet to hit him. You no doubt didn’t expect Andrei Stas of CSKA to basically turn Makarov into the middle of a salmon sandwich.

(We had them in Sochi. They were delightful.)

But, alas, your opening the door led to this chain reaction of tumbling bodies, with Stapleton and Makarov hitting the bench floor like weary travelers falling on a hotel bed; and, alas, this led to an injury for Makarov, who only played 2:27 in the third period of his team’s 3-1 win and then did not play in their 12-0 joke of a hockey game against Slovan on Wednesday.

It’s not your fault, KHL bench door guy. These things happen.

Unless this was on purpose, in which case you’re a devious one, comrade.
