Jared Cowen suspended three games for Jussi Jokinen head shot (Video)

Jared Cowen, you have officially been put on notice by the NHL's Department of Player Safety for three games ... thanks to your Saturday head shot of Jussi Jokinen.

The news comes from Senators coach Dave Cameron -- not the British Prime Minister.

Check out the NHL suspension video of Cowen, a Sens defenseman, blasting Jokinen, a Panthers forward, from Saturday's 4-1 Ottawa win over the Florida Panthers:

From the Ottawa Sun on the play:

While Cowen was given a two-minute minor for interference when the incident occurred in the second period of the club's 4-1 victory over the Panthers at the Canadian Tire Centre, he's in a tough spot to defend himself because he caught Jokinen late and there's a belief he made contact with the head.

Also, in Dec. 2013, he was suspended two games for a hit on Buffalo's Zemgus Girgensons, which played a role.

From the NHL's video:

"Cowen drives up and into Jokinen delivering a shoulder hit that significantly impacts Jokinen's face."

We very much echo those sentiments. Though Jokinen stayed in the game, and Cowen got two minutes, it was just a brutal play. Jokinen didn't have the puck, Cowen extended his arm -- it just didn't look good at all.
