Not done dealing, Sabres send Jhonas Enroth to Stars for Anders Lindback

Tim Murray wasn’t done trading after he made the Evander Kane deal on Wednesday morning. In his second trade of the day, the Buffalo Sabres GM sent goaltender Jhonas Enroth to the Dallas Stars in exchange for netminder Anders Lindback and a conditional third-round pick in 2016.

That conditon, according to Bob McKenzie, is if Enroth wins four playoff games for the Stars, Buffalo will receive a second-round pick instead of a third-rounder.

"Jhonas is an extremely instinctive, experienced goaltender and Head Coach Lindy Ruff has a familiarity with his game," said Nill, via a press release. "Going down the stretch, where we have five more back-to-back situations, it was important for us to have a game-tested goaltender to help balance the workload.”

Nill got a good view of what his new goaltender can bring after the Sabres beat the Stars 3-2 last Saturday night. Enroth made 38 saves in the win.

There’s no question that Kari Lehtonen has struggled mightily this season. His .906 save percentage is 34th among NHL goaltenders. Thirty-fourth! That’s for a goalie who’s averaged a .914 since being dealt to Dallas. He also has two more years left on his contract and $11 million coming to him, according to Spotrac, something important to note depending on which goalie Ruff rides as Dallas attempts to claw their way into the playoffs.

Enroth's acquisition means the no. 1 job in Dallas is up for grabs, something that didn't exist with Lindback there.

Lindback, meanwhile, hasn't developed into an impact NHL goaltender since leaving Nashville and has posted sub-.900 save percentages over the last two seasons. So, in short, he's perfect for Buffalo's tank mentality.
