Richard Bachman gives up center-ice goal, is totally chill about it (Video)

Under different circumstances, Drew Doughty’s goal from the red line in the third period against Edmonton on Tuesday might go down as one of the most embarrassing given up by any goalie this season.

But Richard Bachman had plenty to smile about after the game.

“Giving up that second goal was pretty awesome,” he said, after making 25 saves in the Edmonton Oilers’ stunning 4-2 win over the Los Angeles Kings. “I was just trying to get on the top 10 list, and I’m pretty sure that will make it.”

Bachman said he saw Doughty rip the puck from center ice and tried to deflect it with his stick.

“The new pads, when they changed it, opened up the five-hole just a little bit. Two-inch puck, into a one-inch hole,” he said.

“But we won the game so I can laugh about it.”

For Bachman, it was just his seventh appearance of the season and first since March 30. Maybe he’s earned a couple more: Bachman has stopped 86 of 89 shots in winning three straight starts.
