Austrian snowboarder Benjamin Karl loses out on promised trip to Hawaii after earning bronze medal

Austrian snowboarder Benjamin Karl had extra incentive to win men's snowboard parallel giant slalom – a trip to Hawaii.

"The president of the Austrian Ski Federation said to me, 'If you win the Olympics, I will pay for you to go on holiday to Hawaii.'" Karl said.

Sadly, Karl, who won silver in the Vancouver Games in 2010, finished as the bronze medalist on Saturday after beating Italy's Aaron March.

But Karl hasn’t lost hope. He’s making a plea for a consolation prize for adding to Austria’s 17 medals in Sochi.

“Maybe he will give me a trip to Egypt,” he said.
