While you were sleeping: Men's skicross features most dramatic photo finish of Sochi

While the United States slept, things were busy on the other side of the globe. Here is our recap of everything Olympics you may have missed overnight. Social media curated by Kari Van Horn.

*The men's skicross competition was highlighted by a French sweep with Jean Frederic Chapuis leading the way. Chapuis beat out countrymen Arnaud Bovolenta and Jonathan Midol to claim gold.

However, the most memorable finish of the day came in one of the quarterfinal heats. Switzerland's Armin Niederer won the race thanks to a wipeout that claimed three other skiers on the final jump. And that's where the battle for the second qualifying spot ensued.

With his arm flailing, Russia's Egor Korotkov edged Sweden's Victor Oehling Norberg and Finland's Jouni Pellinen to advance.

*Norway continued its domination of Nordic combined with a gold medal in the men's 4x5-kilometer race. Germany took silver and Austria collected the bronze. The win gave Norway its second Nordic combined gold in Sochi and fourth medal of any color in the discipline’s three Olympic events. Germany took silver and Austria collected the bronze.

*Reaction to Russia's stunning loss against Finland in the men's ice hockey tournament quarterfinal is still pouring in. It isn't pretty...and neither are the newspaper clippings.

*The U.S. and Canada renew their women's ice hockey rivalry on Thursday with a gold medal on the line. Apparently, the Canadians, gunning for a fourth straight Olympic title, are channeling The Beatles as they prep for the showdown. The two countries have faced off for gold in every Olympic women’s ice hockey tournament except for the 2006 Torino Games.

*Team USA bosledder Aja Evans is still reveling in being a newly-crowned Olympic medalist. Evans won bronze with Jamie Greubel in the women’s competition, right behind American silver medalists Elana Meyers and Lauryn Williams.

*Silver medalist Noelle Pikus-Pace issued a skeleton challenge to Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon. In case you missed it, Fallon and American bobsledder Steven Holcomb had an interesting exchange, after the late-night host aired an Olympic segment that poked fun at the Sochi bronze medalist.

*Who doesn't want a photo with Team USA men's ice hockey hero T.J. Oshie?

*Polina Edmunds gets a surprising visit from one of her U.S. figure skating teammates in a Sochi selfie.

*Sage Kotsenburg seems to be making friends with everyone since winning slopestyle snowboarding gold. Now, he's hanging out with Kelly Osbourne.

*American luge athlete Kate Hansen, known for her dance moves, had a “wolf” sighting and posted a video of the encounter with the creature as it roamed through her hall. We later discovered the footage was a hoax courtesy of Jimmy Kimmel, but feel free to spin a Kate Hansen "Dances with Wolves" joke out of it anyway.
