Luis Suarez is in unbelievable and unstoppable form right now, another two goals in the 5-0 thrashing of Tottenham at White Hart Lane did not only help his Liverpool side back into second place in the Premier League but were his 16th and 17th goals in just 11 league outings.

Despite missing the first five games of the season through suspension carried over from the last campaign the Uruguay striker has hit the kind of form that has seen him being rated as among the best in the world, no mean feat for a player at a club not playing in Europe.

Against Spurs, he was integral to Liverpool’s win, not only due to his brace but due to his all round game. While he is averaging 1.5 goals per game he brings so much more to his side than his ability to find the back of the net.

He won the Man of the Match award, which is no surprise, but he did so with a Squawka Performance Score of 127, by far and away in advance of any Spurs player on the pitch.

His Heat Maps shows that he barely ventured into the Liverpool half, such was Liverpool’s dominance, it also shows that he spent the game predominantly in and around the opposing team’s penalty area.

He was also involved with all five goals. He scored two, set up John Flanagan and Raheem Sterling for their efforts and had the shot parried by Hugo Lloris which led to Jordan Henderson scoring. On face value it looks like Liverpool would not have won if it was not for their talismanic striker (although I am sure they would have such was their overall performance).

His two goals came from seven shots, which means he scored with 28% of his shots which is only slightly worse than his season average of 29% of his shots ending up in the net. Of his seven shots against Spurs six were on target with only one not testing the ‘keeper, and that one attempt was blocked.

His pass completion was also good with 77% completed and his only cross being successful. He also made four key passes in the game, crucial in not just the scoring of goals but in the team’s build up play.

The game against Spurs was just one of many top class performances he has put in this season with a four goal haul against Norwich City perhaps the only better game he has played in 2013/14.

Suarez is in the form of his life in one of the best leagues in the world. He looks set to fire Liverpool into the Champions League and maybe even to a long awaited title challenge.

If Liverpool do not at least achieve the former there is no doubt he will leave the club for one of Europe’s top sides and test himself at the highest level.

And if he can maintain this kind of form he looks set to be one of the World Cup’s star players, unfortunately for England.
