5 crazy things you missed: Balotelli fiancée’s joy, fans strike gold, ex-England player’s nudist beach

The Rio Report

Often some of the funniest, most interesting and quirky moments at huge sports events go almost unnoticed, rarely featured in reports or blog posts.

So here are five ridiculous things you may not have already seen or heard about from the last few days in Brazil with the World Cup now in full swing.

Did you see anything particularly noteworthy that passed off without mention? Feel free to bring it to our attention in the comments section below...

1) THE HAPPIEST FAN OF THE WORLD CUP - Balotelli's fiancée has time of her life watching him shine

It has been the perfect week for Mario Balotelli and his fiancée Fanny Neguesha, who had not only their engagement, but also his winning goal against England to celebrate.

The Belgian model sported an Azzurri shirt with Balotelli's name and number nine on the back as she revelled in her fiancé's heroics in securing the crucial Group D opening win in Manuas.

England fans queued up for selfies with Fanny as she partied in the stands and who can blame her for being just a bit happy and jubilant at the moment? It's great to see that the carnival atmosphere in Brazil is so infectious.

2) IS THAT A NUDE BEACH IN YOUR GARDEN? Ex-England striker's Copacabana garden tribute

What's former England striker Kevin Davies up to nowadays, you might well be wondering? Well, as it happens, the bulky forward has been very busy doing a spot of 'creative' gardening.

The 37-year-old, who now plays for Preston, could not make it on the plane to Brazil for real so he decided to bring the Copacabana Beach to his home in what amounted to a ridiculous but brilliant creation.

As demonstrated by the photos below, Davies focused on every detail to bring the beach spirit back to his Bolton garden with a nudist section all part of the theme. What do you make of his efforts?

3) WHAT IS ALL THIS ABOUT, REALLY? - France squad demonstrate quite amazing team unity and spirit

World Cup 2014 - France Training... by Tai-T

After the spirit in the France camp reached an all-time low at the World Cup in South Africa four years ago, it's really quite something to see how the players have bonded this time around.

Deschamps will either have been delighted or disturbed to see his men rolling around on the floor, locked in a firm embrace, during what was supposed to be an intensive training session in Brazil.

Liverpool's Mamadou Sakho was particularly keen on the whole idea of rolling around while locking arms with a partner and, to be fair, he really was pretty good at it. There's nothing like a good training ground tumble, clearly.

4) FANS STRIKE GOLD WITH DISCOVERY - FIFA unintentionally gives back to loyal football fans

Mexico had plenty to celebrate as they beat Cameroon 1-0 in Natal in Group A on Friday, which was lucky for these fans, who needed an excuse to drink handfuls of beer.

This intrepid group of Mexico supporters found a beer stand which had been left unattended in the stadium and decided to fill their pockets.

How kind of FIFA to put the amber nectar on tap - it's just another way the organisation are giving back to the fans.

5) PARANOID MUCH? OH, COME ON - French call in FIFA to investigate 'drone snooping'

French call in FIFA to investigate drone snooping

Perhaps absurdly, France have asked FIFA to investigate their suspicions that a drone was used to spy on the team's preparations for the World Cup opener against Honduras.

"Apparently drones are used more and more," coach Deschamps said, sounding more miffed than genuinely concerned. "It's not up to me, FIFA handles this and has been carrying out an inquiry; we don't want any intrusion into our privacy.

"The drone was not from us," assured a Honduran reporter as the whole debacle turned into some strange kind of playground spat over a stolen conker. What about focusing on the football, Didier?
