‘Amazing!’ Look what invaded James Rodriguez’s goal celebration

The Rio Report

Colombia’s James Rodriguez has taken the World Cup by storm. The Monaco forward has provided us with astonishing goals, great celebrations and he led a spirited Colombia side to the quarter-finals in which they ultimately lost 2-1 to hosts Brazil.

But despite an incredible tournament, it will be Rodriguez’s celebration in the last-eight tie will live long in the memory of those watching.

Having just dispatched a penalty in the dying moments of the fixture, the 22-year-old swiftly collected the ball in order to return to the centre circle. But in doing so, the forward was joined by an imposter on the pitch.

At first glance it appeared that a lizard had embarked upon the Monaco man, but it soon became apparent that a grasshopper, and a giant one at that, was the imposter.

The giant insect was so difficult to spot initially that there was little or no mention of it, until a few individuals on social media flagged it up and the word began to spread.

The Colombian was either unaware or totally unfazed by the insect on his arm.

If it was the latter, that really would be impressive given the sheer size of it and the way it suddenly hopped onto his arm.

The image will certainly go down as one of the more remarkable from this, or any, World Cup.

It was just unfortunate for Rodriguez that it was Brazil who hopped into the semi-finals...
