1) WHAT, YOU DAMAGED THE WORLD CUP TROPHY? Mystery German players chips precious gold trophy

The head of Germany’s football association Wolfgang Niersbach has admitted that the World Cup trophy has not survived the players' victorious celebrations without a blemish.

The Germany squad were welcomed home from Brazil to jubilant scenes and toured Berlin with the famous trophy during midweek - but may have celebrated a little bit too hard as their prized reward has been damaged by an unknown member of the team.

"At one point, a small piece of our World Cup trophy was chipped off," DFB president Wolfgang Niersbach is quoted by Die Welt as saying. "But do not worry! We have specialists on the case who can fix it.

"We have investigated persistently who it was that damaged the trophy, but the investigation was concluded without a result."

Luckily too the trophy the Germans have been given is a replica. The real trophy, made from 75 per cent 18 carat gold, is virtually always under lock and key, except for very special occasions such as the final.

2) EVER WONDERED WHAT JOHN TERRY TAKES AWAY WITH HIM? Well, now you don't have to wonder as he's revealed all

John Terry and the rest of the Chelsea squad have flown to Austria to continue their pre-season preparations, and he's revealed what exactly he packed for the trip, rather bizarrely.

Perhaps most surprisingly, the Blues skipper revealed that he is taking Harry Redknapp's autobiography 'Always Managing' on the club's trip after sharing an Instagram picture of the book included in his luggage.

It's a surprising pick, not least because we expected him to be reading a book entitled something along the lines of '101 ways to be a captain, leader, legend'. Equally, there are plenty of very good reads about Jose Mourinho on the market.

What else? Well, an array of very expensive, fancy gadgets and a healthy shake processor and what could be his food and fitness diary ahead of the new season. Good to see that he clearly packs very light, though.

3) RORY, YOU PUT THAT IN THE CLARET JUG? - McIlroy's trophy has Jager poured into it in celebrations

So that's what he was up to. Rory McIlroy celebrated his Open Championship win on Sunday – by seemingly using the Claret Jug to drink Jagermeister from.

A photo has emerged on social media showing McIlroy’s mother, Rosie, watching on as Jagermeister was poured into the famous jug during the family’s party.

To be fair to McIlroy, winning the Open Championship in the style he did pretty much allows him to do whatever he wants in terms of celebrating with similar panache. But Jager, really?

A Liverpool fan has posted photos of his house, which was burned down, and what seemed to him the remarkable fact that his older brother’s club membership pack survived in pretty much perfect condition.

Posting as the Reddit user, amastril, he posted photos of his house in Australia, which burned down to the ground following a fire last week, adding the message “YNWA”.

Fortunately, his family escaped unhurt from the incident, and the added bonus was that his brother’s official Liverpool membership pack was also undamaged.
