  • The British stars hoping to make it big in the NFL

The NFL is getting ready for its annual draft - and for the first time ever, four British players are set to land contracts.

Each year, American football holds a draft of promising young players, most of whom are made up from college players, but some of whom come to the sport from other backgrounds - and in some cases, have never even played the sport before.

That's the case with one of the British hopefuls this year as the draft, which starts on Thursday and continues for three evenings. There are seven rounds in total, with any leftover players still able to get contracts as free agents

Ever fancied getting your hands on Tom Daley's swimming trunks? How about an Olympic torch? Or one the balls hit by Andy Murray on his way to glory?

Well, now's your chance with a huge sale of London Olympic memorabilia planned this weekend at the City of Coventry Stadium.

Among a plethora of signed photos - mostly, it seems from golden girl Jessica Ennis, golden boy Mo Farah and golden oldie Sir Chris Hoy - are some rather more left-of-field items that are sure to get hardcore collectors' juices flowing.

Such gems include the complete Mary Poppins costume which featured in the epic Opening

  • Crucible sensation branded ‘crazy’ for in-game antics

Crucible debutant Dechawat Poomjaeng has certainly made a splash in his first World Championship appearance, with Stephen Maguire saying he could not bear to watch the world number 70's antics during their first round encounter in Sheffield.

The colourful Thai player, who is rapidly becoming a crowd favourite in Sheffield, spilt a bottle of water mid-frame, applauded his own shots and willed Maguire's to go awry on his way to posting a shock win over world number five Maguire.

The offbeat display prompted Maguire to question his opponent's sanity.

  • Ousmane Drame in action for his parent club Padova (Imago)

Let's be honest, we've all had one of those nights where you solicit the services of a prostitute, try to pay her with an iPhone 5, steal her purse and try to escape on a bicycle, only to be chased down and caught by a transvestite? No? Oh, that'll just be Lecce winger Ousmane Dramé then.

The 20-year-old Frenchman is alleged to have sought the services of a Nigerian lady of the night in the Porta Rudiae area of Lecce in the early hours of Monday morning, but after failing to pay for the dirty deed with cash, things started to play out like a rejected plot line from The Hangover sequel.

  • Footballer bloodies ref for awarding penalty

Luis Suarez being banned for 10 games for biting an opponent has been labelled as 'harsh' by some, but it's unlikely Pieter Rumaropen will have any such sympathisers.

When a referee awarded a controversial penalty against Indonesian side Persiwa Wamena with eight minutes to play at 1-1, it’s fair to assume the entire squad were none too happy.

Wamena’s Rumaropen, however, took his sense of injustice to shocking levels by running straight over to the official and landing a vicious left to his face.

Though the replays showed that his team-mate appeared to get some of the ball with his risky

  • A TV captioning service has issued an apology after incorrectly reporting actress Zooey Deschanel as the one of the suspects in the Boston Marathon bombing.

Caption Solutions provided the text for a Fox network affiliate channel, KDFW, in Dallas during the rolling coverage of the manhunt for Dzokhar Tsarnaev, who was subsequently detained by police.

Their caption read: 'Marathon Bomber. He is 19-year-old Zooey Deschanel."

Deschanel, of course, is actually 33, female, and, most critically, not a suspect in the Boston Marathon attack.

Writing on Twitter after she became aware of the gaffe, she

  • In this day of recruiting websites, AAU teams and the constant drive to find the next LeBron James, overhyping young athletes has become somewhat of a pastime for sports fans.

And while it's easy to brush off most of the coverage as superfluous, one highlight video posted recently has risen above the rest.

The compilation belongs to the superbly named Seventh Woods, a 14-year-old from Columbia, South Carolina. In the video, the 6-foot-1 Woods dominates opponents with an array of extremely athletic dunks, blocks and lethal step-back shots.

In four days since its posting, the video has

  • The world of football was buzzing on Monday after Robin van Persie's wonder-strike helped propel Manchester United to their 814th Premier League title - a fitting tribute to Alex Fergsuon's 1,112th season in charge of the Red Devils.

But the day before, on the other side of Europe, a goal every bit as extraordinary was being scored by a Brazilian star.

Ukrainian top flight side Metalist Kharkiv are in pole position to claim a Champions League spot next season, but with Dynamo Kiev breathing down their necks in the run-in they know that every goal counts.

So when they went 1-0 down against

With QPR's relegation from the Premier League imminent, there's a good chance goalkeeper Julio Cesar will be wearing a different shirt next season. Yet the Brazilian appears to be getting ahead of himself by wearing a full Chelsea kit to countryman David Luiz's fancy dress-themed 26th birthday party.

Luiz and Cesar could have made things very easy for themselves by dressing up as Sideshow Bob and Buzz Lightyear for the celebration, but their outfits appeared to be inspired by south west London, with the Blues defender dressing as a Chelsea pensioner. The picture above was uploaded to

  • Goalkeeper deals with backpass by nutmegging striker

BK Häcken goalkeeper Christoffer Kallqvist was put under pressure by a backpass from one of his own players during a recent Swedish Allsvenskan league match with Mjällby AIF.

Rather than hoof the ball away like most shot stoppers in this high-pressure situation, Kallqvist decides to control it and take on approaching striker Marcus Ekenberg. The risky decision paid dividends when the keeper pulled off an outrageous nutmeg (i.e. he put the ball between his opponent's legs) with his left foot, before clearing it to safety. He even earned a smile and a high five from the humiliated striker for
